Duplex Steel Lap Joint Flanges consist mainly of chromium (21–23%), nickel (4.5–6.5%), molybdenum (2.5–3.5%), and nitrogen. This balanced makeup provides them with great resistance to pitting, crevice corrosion, and chloride stress corrosion cracking, especially in aggressive environments. Mechanically, Duplex flanges have high strength, with tensile strength usually in the 620–800 MPa range and yield strength at about 450–550 MPa—almost twice that of conventional austenitic stainless steels. The lap joint configuration, in combination with a stub end, provides straightforward bolt alignment and low welding stress on the flange itself.
